days in this forecast. we'll have full details coming up. bob? >> 5:00 o'clock straight up on a tuesday morning, looking live at the 42 freeway, light volume so far this morning for the gang coming in toward philadelphia. couple of problems in the neighborhood. we'll check in with mass transit coming up next. good morning. >> bob, thanks, good morning. new this morning, investigators are trying to pinpoint what sparked an apartment fire in northeast philadelphia. the flames broke out just before midnight at the grand meadows apartment the 3100 block of grant avenue. no one was hurt, but as you can see, that apartment did suffer some heavy damage. a stray bullet narrowly miss as sleeping toddler in delaware count. >> i police say that bullet landed just a few inches above the child's crib. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry joins us now, at the darby borough police department with more on this very close call. syma? >> reporter: that's right, police are looking for the people responsible for a stray bullet nearly hitting a toddler sleeping in his crib. right now, police are searching through surveillance

video and hoping to talk with eyewitnesses, to catch the two gunmen. a crib is supposed to be a safe place, but sunday night, the dangers of the outside world came close to hitting a three year old boy sleeping. the shooting happened around 11:00 at night near the intersection of sixth and walnut st. police describe the gunman as two men in their late teens, early 20's. there were number of 9-millimeter shell casings at the scene. but, police say, the stray bullet hit a block away, going through a wall at the boat house apartments. >> people fire weapons, and don't understand where that round is going to go after they fire it. >> i don't want to see any kid, anybody, really, get hurt. >> janice davis is related to the boy. she is also the president of the darby borough council. she was frightened to learn the bullet was only inches away from the child. >> that was migrate grandson, if he had stood up, he might not be here today. >> neighbors are outraged the gun violence has increase in the their neighborhood. >> i could have woke up to one of my kids not breathing, you

understand what i am saying? >> but there has got to be a bert way to work things out instead every using a gun. >> police say there was homicide about a week ago, in that same area, where the sunday shooting took place, and they're trying to see if there is possible connection with that. live in darby borough, syma chowdhry, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> syma, thank you. plea from the mother of gloucester township man critically injured in a hit-and-run. she wants the driver that hit her son to come forward. vehicle hit kevin trans in gloucester township. walking home from his job at a pizza shop. ' cents punctured lung and broken bones. his mother said he remembers the hit-and-run. >> he actually said that he was crossing the road and he felt as if the car was trying to speed up to hit him. >> he was able to call the pizza shop for help. someone there called 911. police have not description of the vehicle. so they hope the public can

into the mid and upper 80s around philadelphia, at the shore, upper 70s expected in the poconos, lots of sunshine for you, keeping that sun it looks like for the better part of the week. so that's only going to allow things to continue to heat up about us with high pressure in place for couple of days. so today in place, tomorrow in place, but on wednesday we are going to be tracking this next cold front. kind of whimpy by comparison to other larger fronts that have come through. but we will feel the steam it, will heat up to about 90 by that point, and maybe help touch off just spotty shower or storm toward tomorrow night. so, bob, for now, it is looking good. >> sounds good. common inside, grab a coffee. 5:04, looking good on the roadways, light volume so far. we begin our tuesday morning, some of the kid went back to school yesterday. so three cheers for the bus drivers, look out in the neighborhood, if your township or community, the kids went back to school, of course, the little ones out there. you will see some unusual traffic patterns start to develop, not only this week, but certainly next week, when the rest of the gang goes back

to school. live look here, 422, coming around the curb near trooper, light volume, this downtown we go, vine expressway there is fellow coming across town heading for 95, again, light volume. the roads are dry. how much, we're not dry over here in glassboro. overnight water main break, route 47, right at high street, you may remember yesterday we were closed up here at that stretch because after crash. this morning, we're closed because after water main break almost in that same area. and in lansdale, the bethlehem pike, route 309, southbound lanes are blocked at line lexington road from early mourn crash. crews still working on the boulevard, northbound, between third up to tyson avenue with that reconstruction project. erika, back to you. >> bob, thank you. developing right now, former fbi director louie free remains in a hospital, following single car crash in vermont. investigators say, it appears freeh drove his suv off the road and hit a tree. we're told his injuries are serious.

you may remember that freeh was hired by penn state to examine how the school handled the jerry sandusky case. the national transportation safety board wants to know what caused mosquito helicopter crash in cape may county. chopper owned by the county's mosquito control department made a hard landing yesterday morning in cape may courthouse. they were doing weekly observations, in the salt marsh when the chopper went down, nearly missed an house and a soccer field. >> it is all the sudden we heard this noise, like the rotors hitting the trees it, sounded like somebody was cutting brush with a big brush cutter. and then all the sudden it went down, the noise stopped. both the pilot and passenger suffered minor injuries. well, as you know, drinking and driving is a dangerous beginning. delaware county man apparently with too much to drink had his nephew take the wheel. the problem, his never ooh is only eight years old. "eyewitness news" reporter nicole mcclaren picks up the

story. >> reporter: police say 58 year old clarence hairston chose his eight year old nephew to be hess designated driver in broad daylight. cords willing to the affidavit the boy sat on hairston's lap steering up and down upper darby side streets, all while hairston drank a 25-ounce can of beer. his other nine year olds nephew was bouncing around in the back seat without a seatbelt. >> i would have rather seen the kid take the car than drive away. >> superintendent of police michael chitwood said one of the officers was on patrol when they noticed hairston anthem driving recklessly, blocking traffic at the intersection of gill forward and coply roads. it was just steps away from hairston's home here on little cross road where police were finally able to apprehend him. >> the owner of the car was so drunk he couldn't get out of the car without assistance. >> reporter: we visit add woman who calls herself hairston's fiancee, she said he would never put his nephews in danger. >> no, no, not like that. >> then quickly closed the door on our cameras. police say hairston was

work that late shift, you snow. >> working on like two hours of sleep, poor guy. >> he is there, going to have fun. the city of philadelphia saluting hometown taney dragons with parade down broad street. >> so hey. powered in part by the pitching of mo'ne davis, the dragons made it all the way to the u.s. championship semifinals. now, no other philadelphia little league team has made it to williamsport. wednesday's parade will start at 2:00 in the afternoon at 20th and market. in center city. it is going to go around city hall, then down south broad street. the first stop is the kimmel center for performance by the philly pops. that parade makes its second stop at broad and washington where the mummers will perform. party then wraps up at fdr park. the phils will also honor the dragons before wednesday night's game at citizens bank park. so happy we are celebrating them like this. >> i think that's the route the phillies took in 2008. i believe it is we'll check it out of love a parade. everybody, let's get throughout.
